Creatures of InHuman Form - New Breed Series

It's begun! A new set of creatures to roam the art world and hopefully find their places displayed in gallery shows or even on your own walls one day! (If you would like to purchase a print of one of these, please message me with what size you would like! I can print them from 5x7 to 20x24 inches)

I just wanted to post a couple shots from my shoot with Mary40 and Iris since I haven't had time to dedicate any great blog entries recently with school finals, work, and my many other projects and activities I am involved in. I am all over the board on this shoot as usual. I just can't stick to one style! Except for my most recent project:

Engaged! It's finally happened!

Dave and I got engaged this past Saturday! 5 1/2 years in the making (well I suppose 12 years in the making if you count from the year we met. haha!).

Our informal engagement photo we took that night.

Then we both proceeded to get flu/colds the following day and watched movies all weekend together enjoying our newly enhanced relationship status.

More Vintage Love

I cannot hold back my love for the vintage prints of the mid 1800's through the 1920's. I really can't pinpoint my absolute favorite era in that long span of time but I have alot more to explore by way of photoshop editing to mimic these styles and also in my film classes to study darkroom/shooting techniques as well.

On a side note: Here's a photo Adam took of me next to my piece in the dirty show. I was working the show as well as being one the artists, hence the pasties with tassels.

More time to myself

I get alot of days were I have a couple hours to kill at school and on those days I bring my camera just to see if by chance the studio might be free for me to mess around in.
I had two shoots this week with me, myself, and I.

One were I studied some high key lighting, which I really haven't delved into much before. I usually just prefer darker backdrops or bright backdrops for some reason, but I actually was excited to try this and they came out almost how I wanted them to. I still have a few more things to try with that set up but for my first go and with self portraiture, I was somewhat happy with the results.

The second shoot was not supposed to be a self port. shoot but due to some unfortunate circumstances, it became one. (Don't worry, dear, we WILL reschedule soon! I hope everything is getting better for you)
I did not have much of a plan for this shoot other than to get my assignment on same subject interpretations shot and edited before class that night. Which I did, thankfully.

These were two different shots with very similar poses. One I did without the flowers and the second I had real flowers in the top and the hair flowers were digitally added later just for fun.

HandyGirl is the best when it comes to spontaneous adventures. Not much planning, just fly by the seat of your pants (or lack their of) moments. I love it! It makes me think on my feet instead of trying to over-plan the shoot.
Today was a rare warm yet snow covered day and we took full advantage of it. Here's our take on the Snow Nudes:

Another New Style

I go through photo style experiments like crazy. I enjoy keeping things fresh with new techniques whereas a lot of other photographer's have a set look to their images. I have a few steady ideas but the details and creative process changes frequently.
I recently started using a new vintage technique inspired by the early nude photos of the med-late 1800's. I have tried many vintage looks before but this one has a new grainier yet softer feel to it.

Self Portraits for Practice

I always have shot myself when I wanted to learn something new or just perfect some skills I acquired recently. It's always been enjoyable for me to set up the shot, hit the button, and run into place to get the shot I'm envisioning. Particularly anyone starting out in photography or just trying to update their portfolio with new styles should seriously consider being their own model from time to time. You can practice without the pressure of owing someone else images and it helps you to see how it feels for your models so you can better direct too!
These are my latest:

I was working on my studio lighting techniques and body shapes again. One of my favorite styles to shoot and model.

I also did a few with this vintage dress I picked up about a month ago at a thrift store. A study of motion. Yes, another favorite of mine.

I've been working at school A LOT lately to pump out my final assignments. In Digital I have an emulation project due and I have chosen Jan Saudek as my photographer to emulate. I don't think the class is too interested in this man's work as when I did my presentation on him, it didn't harness any "wow"s and positive comments from my fellow students, but they are a quiet bunch I suppose.

I will be posting my shots as I make more progress on them. Once I get them posted, opinions welcomed and anything you think I could add to my shots to make them better are really desired. These are just some examples of his work that I enjoy.

Tony Clifton show rocked! I should have some shots to post soon! Didn't bring my good digital but took a lot of film shots and was glad I was forced to do so. It's been so long since I shot a concert in film. Developed some today, got three more rolls to go and I'll start scanning them in and printing a few enlargements. But I have so much other work to do too, I always feel either dead bored or super busy.Never an in between unfortunately. Kind of ironic since this is the "In between the Moments" Blog. haha! I guess this IS my in between time.
I did get to dance my butt off at Luna last Thurs. though, so here's a shot of that "moment". Thanks to Dave for accidentally getting such a fun shot! I love these spontanious surprises:

Sometimes Life Sends Me Mixed Messages

Last weekend I pulled off to the side of the road to photograph something I knew I shouldn't be shooting (maggot infested roadkill). I left my windows down and ended up with 15 giant mosquitoes surrounding me when I got back in my car a few moments later. I am allergic to mosquitoes and get giant hives/welts from their bite so I freaked out and cried and screamed my way through the killing process with a rolled up magazine. And the photos I got weren't that great. I was too taken back by the site and smell at that moment to be still enough, plus those maggots move damn fast. I can actually smell these photos:

It's that embedded in my head that when I look at it closely my brain sends the scent of it into my nose. Scary thing, that human brain.

Last night, I grabbed my cookies I had just baked and left my house last night at 6:50p to go to a friend's place to watch Heroes. As I started driving I realized how beautiful the sunset was that evening and decieded to FINALLY stop and photograph it behind this field on my way to the freeway. As I neared the spot I noticed that I'd need to pull over quite far to avoid oncoming traffic being too close to my vehicle. So I pick a spot and start to inch over. "Not far enough" I thought to myself as I slowly move further onto the gravel roadside. My left side tires start to spin and my car slowly sinks into this uber-mini ditch I have driven too far into.
I'm stuck.
I call my brother to come help me get out since he's managed to get himself out of some wild spots in his previous vehicles. He arrives with two female friends I had just met at my house a moment earlier. They all try to push me out with no luck.
I had to call a tow truck and be pulled out of this tiny dip in the dirt! All cause I pulled over to shoot the sunset. This time I end up shooting an even more curiously disgusting subject: deer guts my brother pointed out near a tree where I pulled over (I had to wait for the tow truck so why the hell not spend it shooting).

This is what I got out this ridiculous situation:

Sorry if this is too gross for most people but I have an extreme interest in many sciences and one is the way creatures act, react and how we are all made up of these many components that hold us together most the time.

One of the girls decided to pretend we were pulled over cause I "hit her". She was pissed at all the gawkers slowing down to see nothing so she made "something" for them to see. If you look closely, she couldn't stop smiling.

I never thought I'd make one of these. I really don't even check up on many of them unless I am referred to one by someone I know. But as the mood strikes me tonight, here I am. Creating something that I may leave behind as life moves forward but who knows what tomorrow may bring. I might have this blog for a year or 5 years or more? Life has some pretty crazy twists and turns, i know this well. So let's see what becomes of this and let the winds of chance take it from here!
